Rapidly Rotating Records 78 RPM Show – September 12, 2021

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

Do you know who these gentlemen are? They’re Charles (Charlie) Correll (l.) and Freeman Gosden (r.) best known for their portrayal of “Sam and Henry” and later “Amos ‘n’ Andy” on radio. While they did make some commercial recordings as those characters, they also made a number of records as a vocal duo in their “normal” voices. You heard them sing “Somebody and Me” a couple of weeks ago, and the rest of those records are just as delightful, and you’ll hear three more of them in the second segment of this week’s edition of Rapidly Rotating Records.  The show starts off with a birthday salute to bandleader and composer Francis Craig, pretty much a fixture at Nashville radio station WSM for decades.  In the third segment we’ll take a chariot ride and the fourth segment will celebrate California’s birthday. We’ll wrap things up in the final segment by hopping on the express. There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and be transported magically back to a different–and we thing better–musical era.

ENJOY THE SHOW!
